This term we have been learning about cultures from other countries. We have been interviewing some friends and family to find out more.
We have had Tawa's mum come and talk about The Netherlands, friends from NMIT to talk about China and yesterday Darwyne's brother and mum came to talk about the Philippines.

Humphrey's Birthday!
This week it was Humphrey's birthday. He was 6 years old on Friday!
To celebrate his birthday we had a party. We gave presents and cards to Humphrey, had special party food, played games, some of us dressed in party clothes and we sang 'Happy Birthday' while Humphrey was making a wish to blow out the candles on his cake. We had a wondeful time. Humphrey even had 'trick' candles on his cake that wouldn't blow out. We did't get the hose though... Neroli put the candles under the tap!

Pip
Today Tom's mum brought their pet lamb to school. His name was Pip. We got to feed him before he decided he wanted to play in the Adventure Playground! He felt very soft.

Cross Country
Last week we held our annual cross country. This year was a little bit different because we had it at school rather than at the Botanics.
We ran in age groups. The races were exciting and exhausting at the same time! We were able to demonstrate our 'I can' attitude.
A big thank you to Ethan's dad who took some lovely photo's for us.
Friends after the race.

News Time
This term we have 'Buzz Groups' for news. We are in groups of 4-5 children. One person is the leader and it is their job to report back to the class all the news in our group. We have a different leader each day. It means you have to listen very carefully!

Discovering Nelson
Last week as part of our inquiry learning we went to explore inside The Cathedral. We found it was very quiet, had beautiful windows and was very old. Lots of people use the Cathedral for different reasons, such as, admiring the building, looking at the windows, a quiet place to come and sit or pray and to listen to beautiful singing and music. We think the Cathedral is special to our community!

Unpicking The Past
Last Friday we were lucky enough to have another trip to the museum. We were looking at the sorts of clothes people wore in the past, how they were made, mended and recycled!
I wonder if you can recognise any of these 'early settlers' of Nelson?

Our Museum Trip
Last Friday we went on an outing to the Nelson Museum to learn about some Maori Legends. We had a fabulous time. We were welcomed into the Museum as though we were going onto a Marae. Cindy called us in. This was a very special occasion.
On our walk there we stopped along the way to look at some other special places in our community.
A special thank you to the parents who were able to help us on our trip.
Here is the Nelson School of Music. This is special to many of us because we have performed on stage here.
From the Cathedral steps we could see Symon's Lamp. This was once blown apart may years ago from a combination of a gas leak and a naked flame. It has been restored to its former glory and it stands proudly on Trafalgar Street. We stopped to have our kai on the Cathedral steps. We noted that they use to be wooden steps!
At the Museum we acted out some Maori legends with a parent helping us.
Renwick 3 were a fantastic audience!

Autumn Leaves
We have been busy collecting Autumn Leaves over the last couple of weeks. We have found lots of beautiful colours. We took the camera out with us so you could enjoy what we found. We also wrote a book about our discoveries, which you can find on our bookshelf.
Our buckets were absolutely overflowing with a spectrum of Autumn colours!
